'Dogs down Aggies to open Big Easy Classic

WESTWEGO, LA. - Fresno State women's basketball returns to the win column with an eruptive second half against New Mexico State at the Alario Center on Friday afternoon, 64-49.

Danae Powell proved to be the catalyst in the second half with 18 points going 7-of-11 from the field and 4-of-6 from the three, all of the guards' points were scored in the second half. As a team the Bulldogs shot 57% from the field (15-26) and 54% from the three (6-11).

How it happened

Fresno State opened with a 14–8 lead at the hands of Avery Watkins and Indiya Clarke with four points each. Hedda Koehne, Emilia Long and Jasia Gamble all put shots up for the 'Dogs to get started. Marr was the first 'Dog on the three's this afternoon. Bulldogs' managed to hold a narrow lead to finish the first half after an Aggies 6-0 run in the final minute put them within three, 25-22.

Fresno State took full control in the third, erupting for 25 points on 9-for-14 shooting, including 4-of-6 from three. Watkins got things rolling for the 'Dogs opening a 9-0 run with a deep three herself. Danae Powell clocked in to drop two more three-pointers for her first points of the game. Not shying off anytime soon Powell managed to hit another shot from downtown, double-figures trailed closely behind from a layup in the paint.

Fresno State's defense limited New Mexico State to five field goals and forced five turnovers. Long didn't miss a mark in the final ten shooting a solid 3-of-3 from the field to collect seven points. Powell went in for five more points to total 18 in the second half. 'Dogs hit a 10-0 run to open for their largest lead of the game, 60-40. New Mexico State managed to hit a last second three-pointer at the buzzer to sit within fifteen, 64-49.
