Brandi Carlile Joins Tenille Townes To Perform 'Somebody's Daughter'

Tenille Townes recently collaborated with country Grammy Award-winning artist, Brandi Carlile as part of Cracker Barrel's 50th-anniversary initiative, "Five Decades, One Voice."

The country newcomer and Carlile joined together for a special performance of her moving debut single, "Somebody's Daughter." The song tells a real-life story of an encounter Townes had with a young panhandler on a street in Nashville.

Carlile, who handpicked Townes for this music-video shoot, was blown away Townes' debut single. "That song is just so brilliant and beyond her years," Carlile shares with People. "For me to see that innate worth in someone, it actually took having kids and being in my thirties," adds the 38-year-old. "The fact that she does not have kids and that she's in her twenties is astounding to me."

Townes views music and songwriting as a way to impact and relate to others. "Music or writing songs or being able to stand on this platform of sorts is like a spiritual experience to me. And I somehow am learning to be a vessel for that," she shares. "What means the most to me in all of this is the fact that music has the potential to make people feel like they're not alone in what they're going through."

Projects like Cracker Barrel's "Five Decades, One Voice," gives artist like Townes an opportunity to use their talent for good. In addition to Townes and Carlile's performance of "Somebody's Daughter," the two also performed Carlile's "Fulton County Jane Doe." Following, country icon, Tanya Tucker and the two ladies sang "Delta Dawn," one of Tucker's classics.

"It's incredible, thematically, how much these songs tied together," Townes says. "When I found out the songs we were doing, I was like, wow, these could literally be the same girl."

Townes confidently delivered alongside Carlile and Tucker. "She was prepared, she was humble, she was confident," Carlile shared. "And she delivered a really potent performance. Tanya and I both became huge fans of Tenille's that day."

In an Instagram posted by Townes following the event, she reflects on the night. Her caption said, " I still can't believe this happened in real life. Thank you @BrandiCarlile for singing on this song. Hearing your voice on here is just wild. I also can't get over that the girl in this song and in Fulton County Jane Doe could be very much connected. Brings me goosebumps to think about."
