Supernanny star Jo Frost revealed her "life-threatening" anaphylaxis diagnosis in a video shared on her Instagram account.
โIโve survived more anaphylactic shocks than Iโm prepared to go into detail about right now,โ Frost said in the video.
โI have anaphylaxis, a life-threatening medical condition to certain foods that will compromise my body so horrifically to the point of hospitalization,โ she added.
Anaphylaxis is defined by the Mayo Clinic as "a severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reactionโ that โcan occur within seconds or minutes of exposure to something youโre allergic to."
โAbsolute millions of my community around the world, children and adults, live cautiously and anxiously navigating this journey with not nearly enough compassion, education and empathy from those who do not.," Frost said. โToday, everyone will know someone or someone who knows of one with anaphylaxis,โ she went on. โIf you ignore the severity of this medical condition, itโs as bad as shoving a loaded gun in my face.โ
Frost, 55, said she was "unapologetic" about her medical condition, noting that she "did not ask for it, and it does not define who I am and the impact that I make in the world daily.โ
โBut it does impact how I live my life daily, like the precautions I take, the energy I have to use to discern with hypervigilance,โ she explained.
โBy the way, I speak on behalf of those who also have celiac disease, too, because we are all not faddy eaters,โ Frost continued. โIโm not looking to be treated special, Iโm looking to be treated with the same dignity and attentiveness as you just showed others.โ
Frost is best known for starring on the British television series Supernanny, which showed her helping families address issues with their children. The show debuted on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom in 2004 before being picked up in the United States on ABC from 2005 to 2011 and Lifetime for 20 episodes in 2020.
