Happy New Year everyone! How are your resolutions holding up?
The gym is more packed than usual and everyone has a plan for journaling in 2026...but will it last?
According to "Forbes", only 1% of people keep their resolutions for the full year. So why is the failure rate so high?
Basically, we suck at resolutions and make them too vague, then treat it like an all-or-nothing thing when we fail.
Here are some strategies for keeping your resolutions going strong:
1. Lower your standards. But be specific. Don't just say, "I want to get fit" . . . How about "walk ten minutes after work" instead? Think small wins.
2. Tie habits to routines, not your motivation. After you start the coffee, do five squats. Your mood is unreliable. Coffee is not.
3. Plan for things to go wrong. If you don't have time, do the two-minute version. Or try to make up for it later.
4. Track your progress and bring in one person to keep you accountable. The more you track your progress, the better your outcomes tend to be. And the better your outcomes, the more you'll want to report it to friends and family.
5. And finally, for big life changes, test before you leap. Try a small experiment instead of an all-or-nothing move.
