FRESNO, Calif. – Following two months of preparation, the Fresno State women's track and field team will head to Albuquerque, N.M. this week to compete in the 2025 Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

REVISITING THE 2024 CHAMPIONSHIPS
With 41 points on the final day of the 2024 Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships, Fresno State earned its highest team finish since joining the conference, placing third with 87 points. The Bulldogs had previously not finished higher than sixth and their highest point total was 59.33.
Nine different Bulldogs were named All-Mountain West.
RECORDS FALLING HEADING INTO CHAMPIONSHIPS
Already holding Fresno State's record in the 400 meters, which she set at last year's conference championship, Ceonna Pipion lowered that mark two weeks ago at the Don Kirby Invitational. She finished in 52.29, second overall.
Her time is the third-fastest in Mountain West history.
The senior also teamed with Itzia Mejia Garcia, Janae Heffernan and Jewel Ash to break the program's record in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:36.47. The previous record had stood since 2016. The Bulldogs' new record ranks as the sixth-fastest in Mountain West history.
SETTING THE MARK
This winter has seen 10 new marks show up on the Bulldogs' Top 10 lists. Three of those have come from athletes who have been in the program for at least a year while the other seven have come from first-year 'Dogs.
While Liz Tarczy joined the high jump list a season ago, the sophomore improved to No. 2 this year at 1.78m/5-10.
Other new entries 'Dogs previously in the program have come from Victoria Nino in the 800 meters (#5, 2:12.64) and Ella Spaulding in the pentathlon (#4, 3,737).
New 'Dogs entering the Top 10 have been Itzia Mejia Garcia in the 60 meters (#3, 7.53) and 200 meters (#4, 24.15), Colleen Uzoekwe in the 60-meter hurdles (#3, 8.55) and shot put (#7, 15.06m/49-5), Chiara Pedol in the 3,000 meters (#4, 9:49.36) and Jewel Ash in the 60-meter hurdles (#7, 8.65).
BEEN AWHILE
With only one addition to the Top 10 in the distance events since 2020, Fresno State saw two come two weeks ago at the UW Invite. Freshman Chiara Pedol jumped to No. 4 in the 3,000 meters and senior Victoria Nino moved to No. 5 in the mile. Nino's mark was the first on the 800m list since 2016 while Pedol's was the first since 2017 on the 3,000m.
NEW FACES
Seven of the 21 Bulldogs competing this weekend are new to the program this year.
NEW 'DOGS SHOWING OUT
During the first week of December, Fresno State opened the indoor season at the Silver State Invitational and its newest Bulldogs did not disappoint. Three newcomers entered the program's Top 10 list in four different events.
Itzia Mejia Garcia jumped into a tie for third in the 60 meters at 7.53, .06 shy of the program record. The sophomore transfer from Georgia Southern also is fourth in the 200 meters at 24.15.
Colleen Uzoekwe, a senior transfer from Oregon, moved to No. 3 in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.55.
Zoe Yeast, a senior transfer from Louisville, is seventh in the weight throw with a mark of 19.15m/62-10.
ANOTHER 'DOG ENTERS THE TOP 10
At the Spokane Indoor Challenge, Jewel Ash became the fourth newcomer to put her name on the Bulldogs' all-time Top 10 list. The senior transfer from Charleston Southern clocked a time of 8.65 in the 60 meters which ranks sixth-fastest in program history.
PIPION BACK FOR FINAL INDOOR SEASON
Fresno State's indoor record holder in the 200 and 400 meters began her final indoor season last month with two wins and a third-place result at the Silver State Invitational. Individually, the senior won the 400 meters with a time 53.43 on the second day of the event. That day, she also helped her 4x400 relay team to a win, finishing in 3:43.05.
MEDALIST RETURNS IN THE HIGH JUMP
The reigning bronze medalist indoors and Mountain West champion in the high jump, Liz Tarczy began her year with a new indoor-best clearance of 1.78m/5-10. She finished second in the competition on misses.
Tarczy ranks No. 2 in the MW this season entering the championships.
THE ROAD TO CHAMPIONSHIPS
This week is the first of three straight weekends of competition for the Bulldogs leading up to a break in the schedule before the Mountain West Championships (Feb. 27-March 1). Fresno State will be in Seattle, Wash., and Albuquerque, N.M., twice during the stretch, Spokane, Wash., and Reno, Nev., once.
