Diamond 'Dogs Overpowered by Mustangs in 7-3 Defeat

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State Baseball team fell to the Cal Poly Mustangs 7-3 on Tuesday night at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The game opened with a scoreless first inning, but the Mustangs struck first in the second with a single run, then continued to chip away by adding one run in both the third and fourth innings.

Fresno State's offense was held in check through the first four innings, but they broke through in the fifth. RBIs from Jacob Pappas and Murf Gray brought in two runs, cutting the deficit to 3-2. However, Cal Poly responded immediately, scoring two more runs in the sixth to extend their lead to 5-2.

The Bulldogs' pitching worked to keep the game close in the seventh, but the Mustangs added two insurance runs in the eighth, pushing the score to 7-2. Fresno State fought back in the ninth inning with a late solo home run from Sky Collins, but the rally was contained, leaving the final score at 7-3 in favor of the Mustangs.
